Students and staff at Newstead Wood School are celebrating today after GCSEs were awarded across the country, with Year 11 students once again earning a raft of the highest grades of 8 and 9.
Testament to their hard work, determination and academic prowess, 89% of students at the school achieved a grade 7 or above in both English and maths, with 100% of students achieving a grade 5 or above in the two subjects.
Breaking results down further, and showcasing students’ strength in each of the two subjects, in English alone 92% of students achieved a grade 7 or above, whilst in maths an impressive 96% achieved a grade 7 or above.
Beyond English and maths, the Year 11 cohort performed particularly well in the sciences with over 50% of students achieving grade 9s across all three disciplines.
These results follow last week’s A Level success which saw students at the school earn places at the Universities of Oxford and Cambridge, alongside a range of other top Russell Group institutions, including the University of Durham, King’s College London and Imperial College London.
Alan Blount, Principal at Newstead Wood School, said:
“Very well done to our Year 11 students on another year of remarkable GCSE results. I am always thoroughly impressed by the dedication and commitment our students show to their studies and this cohort has been no different. The results they have achieved today are absolutely superb and we look forward to welcoming many of them back to our Sixth Form in September where I have no doubt that they will continue to excel.
“Thank you, as always, to staff across our school for all that they do to ensure our young people thrive and that they not only reach their academic goals but develop into well-rounded, capable and confident young people.”
