Every August, we invite new starters from across the Group to attend our Best in Everyone Induction Conference, giving them the opportunity to work together from their very first day with United Learning. The BiE Induction Conference is designed to meet the diverse needs of all new United Learning staff, to facilitate sharing, and embed the knowledge that they are not alone. We want attendees to enter the new academic year fired up by the challenge of teaching in our schools and sharing our vision of becoming a world-class educational provider.
The conference will include a range of elective sessions and compulsory sessions for attendees. At the end of day one, participants are invited to attend a celebratory conference dinner; an opportunity to network with colleagues from theirs and other United Learning schools. The networking element of the Conference is really important as it encourages cross-sector collaborations between colleagues from different specialisms and backgrounds.
Feedback from participants is always positive and reveals how much new starters value the Conference as an introduction to United Learning and as an opportunity to understand that they are not only valued as colleagues but that their personal training and development is high on our list of priorities.
The conference is applicable to all new teaching staff employed October 2019 to September 2020 to the following roles:
We hope your career at Newstead will be one in which you thrive. We also know that starting in a new school can be daunting, and with many new faces, names, procedures and locations to learn. We have a comprehensive induction process led by our Assistant Head teacher, which will guide you through our idiosyncracies and quickly allow you to settle into day-to-day life at Newstead.
As an ECT, you will have an additional 10% release time to observe colleagues and allow time to plan and prepare for your lessons. As a more experienced member of staff, you will have a department mentor who will meet with you regularly and ensure that you have time to reflect, ask questions and get the support you need in your role.
We have a comprehensive coaching programme and all colleagues will be part of a coaching group. You will have the support of one of our Excellent teachers who will act as a coach for the year, and support you to be the best you can be in the classroom.
Wherever you are in your career, you will have access to the support and training you require to progress to the next stage. With over 70 schools in the group, there is always an opportunity for you to learn or experience new things. Our pathways are broadly categorised below with further details on the United Learning Careers website.
